About Me
Born and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, I first became interested in ceramic art as a high school student in the late 1970s. It was not until 1993 when I was studying art education at the University of Victoria that I realized I wanted pottery to become more than a hobby. Inspired and mentored by one of Canada's great ceramic artists, Walter Dexter, I soon found myself dreaming of my own studio. After graduation, I spent three years living in the ancient ceramic town of Seto, Japan where I learned traditional wheel and slab-making techniques while teaching English in local schools. Upon returning home, I maxed out my credit cards to make my dream a reality, building my own studio space and establishing Pottery by Harrison in 2002. In addition to being a part-time potter, I am a full-time art and Japanese teacher at Oak Bay High School. I married my wife Kristin in 2010 and two years later we welcomed our son Evan into the world.
